At Adventure Brits, our mission is to celebrate the wondrous beauty of the British outdoors and the myriad adventures awaiting every individual. We are not just an outdoor publication, but a community that cherishes the spirit of exploration and adventure. Our editorial standards and guidelines reflect our commitment to authentic, ethical, and transparent storytelling.
Here’s how we do it:
1. Authenticity and Integrity:
- Whilst we’re not afraid to be opinionated, at times a bit cheeky, and share varied opinions of people from all walks of life, we aim for content to capture the genuine spirit and beauty of British outdoors. We try to avoid exaggerations or misleading portrayals.
- Typically the adventures, destinations, or experiences we cover should be accessible to everyone and we aim to provide accessibility information for those with disabilities where possible.
2. Ethical Partnerships:
- Our paid partnerships are built on a shared vision. We collaborate with tourism boards, local councils, charities, and larger outdoor/adventure/travel brands and businesses but only if they align with our values.
- We believe in transparent partnerships. Any content produced as a result of these paid partnerships will be marked clearly with ‘In partnership with [Partner’s Name]‘ at the beginning of the article.
- Paid partnerships do not guarantee positive coverage. Our primary commitment is to our readers, ensuring they receive accurate and honest information.
3. Inclusivity:
- Our content should reflect and celebrate the diversity of those who enjoy the British outdoors. We encourage stories from adventurers of all backgrounds, ages, abilities, and walks of life, including LGBTQI+, neurodivergent and disabled explorers.
- Respect for local cultures, traditions, and people is paramount. We aim to portray communities with accuracy and sensitivity, but if you think we’ve made a mistake or haven’t followed these guides, we want to know. We’re keen listeners and learners.
- We commit to providing accurate and descriptive alt-text on images for those with vision impairments.
4. Environmental Responsibility:
- We promote sustainable and eco-friendly travel practices, especially human-powered adventures.
- We encourage readers to leave no trace, stick to formed footpaths where possible, respect wildlife, and minimise their carbon footprint.
- Any activity we cover should adhere to ethical environmental standards.
5. Editorial Independence & Affiliate Transparency:
- While paid partnerships help us to keep Adventure Brits running, they do not influence our editorial decisions. Journalistic integrity comes first.
- Advertorials or sponsored content will be clearly labeled and distinguished from editorial content, as stated in point 2.
- We ensure we clearly highlight the inclusion of affiliate links in our articles at the beginning of the content. Whilst we will earn a small commission if the item is purchased via the link, it does not influence our recommendations or inclusion of the item.
- We only include affiliate links if they do not cost the reader more than if they were to buy from the same provider, but directly.
6. Fact-checking and Accuracy:
- All facts, figures, and statements are verified before publication, but mistakes are human and things can change rapidly, so we’re very happy to be corrected if a reliable reference is provided.
- Any updates or corrections to articles post-publication will be made promptly.
7. Image Use and Rights:
- All images should authentically represent the subject matter. We avoid using misleading, photoshopped or AI-generated images.
- We ensure we have the necessary rights to use any image, crediting photographers and sources appropriately.
8. Feedback and Accountability:
- We value feedback from our readers and partners. Any concerns or issues raised will be addressed with urgency and care.
- We encourage a two-way dialogue with our community to ensure we continuously align with their interests and values.
9. Plagiarism:
- Original content is the cornerstone of our publication. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. Although AI is great for planning and providing editorial guidance, AI like ChatGPT to write our content is forbidden. We like real life human adventures.
- We aim to credit original sources, whether it’s for images, quotes, or ideas wherever possible.
- Whilst we make these points clear to all writers, we do however bear no responsibility for any plagiarised content provided by third party writers that we publish on Adventure Brits.
Our commitment to ethical, transparent, and genuine storytelling is unwavering. We believe in creating a space where readers can trust the authenticity of every story and feel inspired by real people to embark on their own British adventure.
