In news that will delight cyclists all over the Northeast of England, a new network of routes along the Yorkshire coastline have been developed for road, touring and gravel bikes.
The unveiling of the new Yorkshire coast cycling routes by Route YC, marks a significant addition to the region’s outdoor attractions, promising to draw in both domestic and international cycling enthusiasts and provide a considerable uplift to the local economy.
The project also aims to further enhance the region’s appeal as a premier destination for outdoor sports and activities.
Spearheaded by a trio of adventure cycling pioneers – Markus Stitz, Mark Beaumont, and Jenny Graham – the Route YC network’s paths are specifically designed to cater to various skill levels and cycling preferences.
Comprising of 12 distinct trails, the network offers a wide range of distances too, from short 9-mile jaunts to extensive 260-mile expeditions, ensuring that every cyclist finds a route that resonates with their own spirit of adventure.
Route YC, backed by the Yorkshire Coast Business Improvement District, has strategically selected starting points for the single-day routes in picturesque locales such as Grosmont, Filey, Whitby, Scarborough, Bridlington, and Hornsea.
This not only makes the routes accessible but also showcases the diverse beauty of the Yorkshire coast.

The network’s flagship circular route, beginning and ending in Scarborough, is particularly suited for gravel bikes, offering a unique blend of scenic views and challenging terrain.
Adding to the network’s allure is a special weekender route commencing in Whitby, along with a touring route that stretches from Hull’s ferry terminal to Staithes in North Yorkshire.
Jenny Graham the CEO of Route YC, emphasised the thoughtful design of all these new routes, highlighting the inclusion of both long-distance challenges and shorter itineraries perfect for a day’s exploration. This meticulous planning ensures that every cyclist, regardless of their experience or endurance level, can enjoy the paths: “we’re offering people a variety of new ways to create their own two-wheel adventure” she said, speaking to the BBC.
